Key takeaways

  • The Filipino VA workforce is far more selective than its reputation. Across 166,350 applications, only about 1 in 508 candidates is placed — a 0.2% acceptance rate.
  • It is a highly skilled, English-fluent talent pool. 80% of hired VAs speak fluent or native-level English, and 65% bring 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • It is a female-led profession. Women are 62% of applicants and 69% of hires, converting at a higher rate than men.
  • Demand is driven by small businesses, not enterprises. 87% of clients have fewer than 50 employees, and for many a VA is their first or second hire.
  • The model is fast. A successful position closes in a median of 18 days, and clients move from signed contract to onboarding in a median of 2 days.

The Talent Side

Who applies to become a Filipino virtual assistant, who gets hired, and how selective the process really is.

Scale & momentum

Monthly application volume more than doubled between January and June 2026. June set the all-time record with 23,874 applications, peaking at 2,256 in a single day.

The screening funnel

Every applicant is screened through multiple stages: CV rating, a role-specific skill test, evaluation, a personal interview, and final client review. The table shows how many candidates reached each stage across all 166,350 applications.

This is not a strictly linear funnel. Candidates do not all pass through the same stages in the same order — the counts describe how many reached each point, not a single fixed sequence.

Alon Pearl, Founder and CEO of VA Masters
“Everyone talks about the Philippines as a source of affordable talent. What the data actually shows is a talent pool so deep that we place fewer than one in 500 applicants. The story here isn't cost, it's selectivity.”
Alon Pearl · Founder & CEO, VA Masters
Alon Pearl founded VA Masters in 2021 after hitting the problem himself: a growing company, work he could not delegate locally at a price that made sense, and one remote hire that changed the maths. He now leads a team of roughly 30 across recruitment, finance, analytics and development, and reviews more than 100,000 applications a year. Available for interview on remote hiring, screening at scale, and the economics of distributed teams.

Who applies — the workforce

The profession is female-led at every stage, young, and highly proficient in English. Women make up an even larger share of hires than of applicants.

The Demand Side

Who hires a Filipino virtual assistant, from what kinds of companies, and how those engagements grow.

Where clients are

The portfolio spans four continents and more than 10 countries, with two-thirds of clients based in the United States. VA Masters operates as a global, English-speaking business, serving clients across the US, UK, Australia, Europe, and beyond.

Who hires a VA — company profiles

The offshore VA model is above all a small-business growth tool: 57% of clients are micro-businesses with 10 or fewer employees, and 87% have fewer than 50. For many, a VA is their first or second hire.

Growth & retention

Monthly client signings more than doubled between Q1 and Q2 2026. Once a first placement proves itself, one in five clients expands to a second VA or more, turning a single hire into a growing offshore team.

Questions & Answers

Common questions about this dataset and how to use it.

How big is the virtual assistant industry in 2026?

The global virtual assistant services market is estimated at roughly $6.5 billion in 2026, with projections placing it near $34 billion by 2030. The Philippines accounts for an estimated 38% of the global VA workforce, making it the single largest source of virtual assistant talent.

What are the current virtual assistant industry trends?

Three trends define 2026: adoption is highest among the smallest businesses (67% of solo founders use a VA), demand is shifting toward specialized and automation-capable roles, and the talent pipeline is growing fast — VA Masters alone processed 166,350 applications, now arriving at over 20,000 per month.

How much do Filipino virtual assistants cost?

Filipino VAs offer significant savings compared with local hires in the US, UK, or Australia — up to 80% lower operational cost. Rates vary by specialization; automation-capable and technical VAs command higher rates than general administrative support.

What is this report based on?

It draws on two datasets from VA Masters: a recruitment dataset of 166,350 applications processed between January 2025 and July 2026, and a client dataset covering the company's active and historical portfolio. How much of the Filipino VA workforce speaks fluent English?

62% of the full applicant pool reports fluent or native-level English. Among hired VAs, that figure rises to 80%.

Who typically hires a Filipino virtual assistant?

It is female-led. Women make up 61.5% of applicants and 69% of hires, converting to placement at a higher rate than men.

How long does it take to hire a Filipino VA?

The median successful position closes in 18 days, and 42% close within two weeks. By comparison, traditional offshore staffing typically quotes 4 to 8 weeks just to present candidates.

Methodology & Definitions

Data sources

Two exports from the VA Masters Hiring System and Clients database (Airtable), extracted July 2026. The recruitment dataset covers 166,350 applications (January 2025 – July 2026) across 484 recruited positions; the client dataset spans the company's history. Figures for January–June 2026 reflect complete months; July 2026 is partial, covering July 1–21.

Definitions

Placed / hired: an applicant with a recorded hire; 327 records qualify. Time to placement: computed over the 296 of 327 placements with valid date ranges. Days to close: from the 147 successfully closed positions with complete date data. Active client: a client with a live, billing engagement at the time of extraction; this differs from clients newly signed in a period, since signing a contract and reaching an active billing engagement are separate events. Demographics (gender, age, English level, experience) are self-reported at application; coverage ranges from 68% to 100% of records by field, and percentages are of respondents.

Notes

The screening process is multi-stage but not strictly linear; stage counts describe how many candidates reached each point, not a single fixed path. Selectivity comparisons and industry timelines are directional framing, not measurements from this dataset. Individual candidate identities, client names, internal attribution, and financial data are intentionally excluded.
